Companies that need deeper reporting and admin control may find more flexibility with platforms like Deel, Remote, or Papaya Global. In my experience, this is likely a deliberate product choice by Oyster, not an inherent flaw.
The Oyster platform is built to simplify global HR work without overwhelming new administrators.
Overall, it does that job well.
Still, Iโve seen a few gaps in my testing that are worth addressing here.

Oyster walks companies through onboarding with a step-by-step wizard that covers hire requests, contract generation, and payroll setup. Most new hires are onboarded within 48 hours.
Oyster AI (called Pearl) answers questions about local labor laws and platform navigation in real time.
What I liked most:
Clear dashboard: All team members, locations, and pending tasks appear in one view with real-time updates.
Self-service employee portal: Employees request time off, view localized pay stubs, and submit expenses without waiting for HR.
Automated workflows: Timesheet and payroll approvals close faster with built-in automation.
Custom branding: Companies add logos and color schemes for a consistent employee experience.
Security controls: Two-factor authentication protects payroll and HR data.
Note: Most active users I spoke with said they didnโt need formal training to use the platform.
Limitations
Oyster focuses on the basics, like hiring, onboarding, payroll, and compliance, rather than deep customization or advanced features.
Gaps Iโve noticed:
Limited reporting tools: Customization for detailed analysis is lacking.
No self-service editing: Employees canโt modify submitted time-off or expense requests without contacting support.
Basic document storage: Files attach to employee profiles without category sorting for contracts, payroll records, or compliance documents. In my opinion, a segmented system would be a significant improvement.
English-only interface: No multi-language UI support for global HR teams managing local employees.
What it means for clients: These gaps mean administrators often export data for deeper analysis or rely on support for routine edits.
How is the customer support at Oyster?
Iโm giving Oyster a strong score for hands-on support and access to local experts. Iโve deducted a few fractions of a point for limited human support hours and the absence of direct phone lines.
The platform handles support through email, in-platform tickets, and live chat during business hours.
At the time of writing this Oyster review, there is no publicly available phone support line for general customer service.

Main strengths and limitations: my take
I found Oysterโs support to be professional and attentive. Compared with more automated providers, it also feels noticeably more human.
Iโve seen reports of slower replies during busy periods and of support agents struggling with more complex issues. In my experience, thatโs fairly common across the industry and not unique to Oyster.
The most obvious room for improvement is adding a phone line and extending live human support to 24/7.
What integrations does Oyster offer?
While the integration library is smaller than larger HR platforms like Rippling, API access, webhooks, and Zapier provide workable alternatives. Overall, thatโs an 8.7 out of 10.
Oyster HR directly connects with more than 20 business tools across HR, accounting, recruiting, and productivity.
The focus is on covering the systems most companies already use, rather than on being an all-in-one platform.

I’m giving Oyster an 8.9 because the platform ticks the key boxes: encryption protects both stored and moving data, access controls use modern identity systems, and testing runs continuously (rather than once a year).
