You’re looking at Rippling’s 4.8 rating on G2 and feeling good about moving forward. Then you come across Reddit conversations talking about a “steep learning curve” and setups that “took longer than expected.”

One user calls it the best decision they’ve ever made. The next says they wish they’d understood the pricing structure upfront.

So which version is closer to the truth? Is Rippling genuinely powerful, or just complicated?

To answer that, I spent time testing the platform, digging into how pricing works in practice, and talking to people who use Rippling every day. Plus, I’ve been in this industry long enough to know which details matter and what’s a waste of your time.

This review is meant to clear that up.

The goal is simple: help you decide whether Rippling is the right fit for you.

Editor's verdict
Best for:

Companies with 50–1,000 employees that use multiple tools to manage HR, IT, and finance

Not ideal for:

Small businesses with basic HR needs or companies looking for budget EOR options

Standout feature:

Cross-platform automation that runs HR, payroll, IT, and finance

Biggest limitation:

Complex pricing that can make the total cost unpredictable

Rippling video review

Our sister brand, EOR Overview, created a short video walkthrough that covers the core points. The written review builds on those with more detail and real-world examples.

What are the pros and cons of using Rippling?

Pros

  • System integration: Rippling connects HR, IT, and finance in one platform. This removes the disconnected data that comes from using separate tools.
  • Strong automation: Rippling reduces manual workload by automating HR processes from hiring to offboarding across all connected systems and countries.
  • Device management: Rippling handles laptop ordering, software installation, and security for remote teams. Most EOR providers don't offer this.
  • App integrations: Rippling connects with 500+ business applications. This creates a more unified workspace than most competitors.
  • Custom workflows: Companies can build approval chains that match their structure.

Cons

  • Unclear pricing: Rippling's modular pricing makes total costs hard to predict without direct quotes. Each service component adds to the base fee.
  • Lengthy setup and steep learning curve: Setup takes longer compared to similar tools because of the many functions. HR teams coming from simpler tools face a bigger adjustment.
  • Inconsistent support: Response times change based on issue type and plan level. Some users wait several days for a resolution.

What is Rippling?

Rippling's website screenshot

Rippling is an all-in-one workforce management platform that connects HR, IT, and finance functions through a unified employee database. Companies use it to manage payroll, benefits, devices, and software from one system.

Parker Conrad (former Zenefits CEO) and Prasanna Sankar founded the company in 2016. Rippling now supports businesses operating in more than 50 countries.

How Rippling works

The platform automates workflows across business systems that normally operate separately.

When I tested Rippling, the onboarding caught my attention because it was so efficient. For example, adding someone to payroll triggered their laptop order, email setup, and software provisioning right away.

There are no (or fewer) manual steps since one employee database feeds all systems at once.

What it means for clients: It means automating tasks that normally require switching between multiple tools.

Who uses Rippling

Rippling works best for medium-sized technology and growing businesses with members across the world.

These companies need advanced systems but lack enterprise-level IT departments. The Rippling platform provides just that: enterprise-grade tools without massive IT investments.

What it means for clients: Companies automate work that normally requires multiple tools and manual coordination.

What are the features of Rippling?

Rippling manages international employment across payroll, compliance, and benefits.

Their services include:

  • Full EOR service
Rippling's EOR service allows companies to hire in 80+ countries without legal entities. The platform manages all contracts, tax registrations, and compliance. International and domestic employees are managed in the same system.
  • Central employee database
One database serves as the centralized source. When information changes anywhere, all connected systems update automatically (this reduces clerical mistakes).
  • IT automation
The platform manages device procurement, configuration, and security. Equipment gets ordered based on role templates, and software pre-installs before devices reach employees.
  • Payroll across worker types
Rippling processes payments for domestic and international employees, contractors, and part-time workers through one interface. The system calculates taxes and deductions based on location, and reports segment costs by department or project.
  • Role-based permission controls
The platform goes beyond basic admin/user roles. Clients can create custom access profiles based on department, seniority, or location.
Feature & service scope rating
9.0 /10

Rippling earns a 9.0 for features because it brings EOR, payroll, IT setup, and access controls into one connected system. You can hire globally, pay every worker type, ship secured laptops, and manage permissions without relying on separate tools.

What are the benefits of Rippling?

  • Less admin work
The platform connects systems that normally operate separately. I’ve seen companies report 60-80% time savings after switching to Rippling.
  • Faster onboarding
New hires can start working much quicker (typically in days). The platform configures accounts, orders equipment, and sets up payroll at the same time.
  • Reliable compliance
Rippling applies regulations based on worker location automatically. The system then tracks changing requirements and updates rules without manual work.
  • Stronger security
Rippling’s integrated IT management keeps security consistent across employees and devices. It controls who gets access, enforces password rules, and handles encryption in the background.
  • Fewer errors
The platform automatically syncs data across systems, so there’s less room for errors that come with the human factor.
  • Better employee experience
Employees manage their own pay stubs and tax forms through self-service. There’s less back-and-forth with HR, and that saves everyone time.

What is the geographic coverage of Rippling?

Rippling’s global reach differs by product, which is broken down by service below.

Coverage by service

  • EOR: 80+ countries
  • Contractor payments: 185+ countries
  • Local Payroll (owned infrastructure): 7 countries
  • Payroll currencies: 50+ supported
  • HRIS*: 85+ countries

*HRIS stands for Human Resource Information System.

Regional strengths

Rippling runs native payroll in 7 countries (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Australia, India) for employers paying people in their home market. For example, a Canadian company can use the service for Canadian employees.

Countries Supported: 185

Coverage rating
9.5 /10

Coverage in 185+ countries for contractors and 80 for EOR services is one of the broadest in the industry. Based on our rating system, Rippling gets a 9.5/10 in this category.

How much does Rippling cost?

Rippling is in the mid-to-premium pricing range for global workforce tools. They use a modular, per-employee pricing model that starts with the core platform cost and adds modules such as payroll, benefits, and IT tools.

Final costs depend on the products you select and the number of employees you manage.

Rippling does not list setup fees, offboarding fees, or discount thresholds publicly. The only way to get a precise cost is to explain your needs and request a quote.

The trade-off is predictability.

I think pricing beyond the base platform could be clearer, since total costs become harder to predict as you add more services.

Still, the pricing tables below can give you a general cost reference (estimated based on commonly reported quotes).

The first table shows pricing by service. The second one compares Rippling’s pricing with other providers (use the slider to change the number of employees).

Service Price
EOR (Employer of Record)
$ 499 /month per employee
Contractor Management
$ 35 /month per contractor
Global Payroll
$ 35 /month per employee

Compare Rippling pricing to competitors

Number of employees: 10

Provider Per month Total/mo Diff vs Rippling
Rippling $499 $4,990
Multiplier $400 $4,000 Save $990

RemoFirst $199 $1,990 Save $3,000
Deel $499 $4,990
Pricing rating
8.7 /10

As per our rating system, Rippling earns an 8.7 out of 10. The pricing will work if you want flexibility, but the lack of clarity didn’t earn any bonus points (typically awarded for value).

What is the user experience of Rippling like?

Rippling’s interface packs a range of features without feeling dated or sluggish. In testing, the platform felt noticeably more modern and responsive than most HR systems I’ve reviewed recently.

Employee experience

The staff portal is clean and easy to use. Workers can:

  • Update personal information
  • View pay stubs
  • Request time off
  • Manage benefits

These tasks work smoothly on both desktop and mobile, and the mobile app does not feel like a limited add-on (I’ve seen this with a few other providers).

Admin experience

Admin views are more complex, which is natural for a platform like Rippling.

They offset this by grouping tools logically.  I think the learning curve is steeper than single-purpose platforms, but day-to-day work speeds up once people get used to the new environment.

Reporting tools

Reporting truly stands out.

The built-in report builder lets HR teams create custom views across modules without SQL or manual exports. This is a step up from more basic platforms (more on that in the dedicated section on analytics and reporting).

Ui/ux rating
8.8 /10

I’m giving Rippling an 8.8 for user experience. The platform stays fast and organized despite its depth and scope.

How is the customer support at Rippling?

Rippling offers several support options, and response times depend on the plan a client uses.

These are the support levels:

  • Standard support: Email and chat typically have 24- to 48-hour response times.
  • Premium support: Priority email and chat (plus phone access) are faster than standard for most issues (4 to 24 hours response times).
  • Enterprise support: A dedicated account manager for the fastest support.

Implementation support

Setup is a strong point. I mention this on every consult call.

Rippling assigns migration specialists who help move data, set up rules, and train admins. This removes most of the hassle that usually comes with switching systems.

Help docs

In my tests, I found the documentation thorough and easy to follow.

Most everyday tasks come with simple directions, and short videos help when written instructions aren’t enough.

Support experience for different issues

Simple questions tend to get answered quickly. Complex issues may need back-and-forth between teams, and this can slow things down. This may sound commonplace, but I’ve seen it more pronounced with Rippling than with other providers.

I think the size and breadth of the platform play a big role here.

Support Channels Email, Phone, Live Chat

Average Response Time not specified
Customer support rating
8.8 /10

Rippling’s setup support is strong, documentation is clear, and response quality improves with higher support tiers. That’s a solid 8.8 out of 10.

What integrations does Rippling offer?

Rippling connects with 600+ business tools across accounting, HR, and IT systems. The connections cover recruiting, collaboration, and custom builds.

Let’s explore each of those groups.

Accounting and HR platforms

For HR, QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, and Sage Intacct automatically sync payroll and financial data. As a client, you run payroll, and the numbers show up in your accounting software without extra manual work.

For recruiting, Greenhouse and Lever handle applicant tracking, while Checkr runs background checks.

Example: When a candidate is moved to the offer stage,  Rippling automatically sends their information to Checkr for additional background checks.

Collaboration and productivity

Connections in these two groups include:

  • Communication tools: Slack, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft Teams
  • Work management apps: Asana, Jira, Salesforce, HubSpot, GitHub, Datadog

Example: A client adds a new hire, and Rippling creates their accounts and sets permissions across all these tools.

API access

Rippling provides an API that lets developers build custom integrations. If a tool isn’t available through the 600+ pre-built integrations, the API can be used to connect it directly.

What it all means for clients: Accounting and recruiting tools sync without problems. When a client adds a new employee, their accounts across Slack, Google, and other collaboration tools are created automatically.

Integrations rating
9.0 /10

The platform integrates with over 600 tools and sets up accounts automatically. That beats most competitors, including some with higher overall ratings (like RemoFirst and Multiplier).

Does Rippling have a mobile app?

Rippling offers iOS and Android apps that handle most employee and manager tasks on the go. It’s one of the highest-rated apps I’ve seen in this space, with 4.7 stars on the App Store and 4.4 on Google Play.

Below is an overview of what the app does well and the areas where there’s room for improvement.

Employees can use the app to:

  • View paystubs, W-2s, and benefits details
  • Clock in and out, track hours, assign time to projects
  • Request time off and check balances
  • Submit expenses with receipt photos
  • Access the company directory and policies
  • Complete training courses and surveys

Managers can use the app to:

  • Approve time-off requests, timesheets, and expenses
  • Create and edit schedules with overtime alerts
  • Update employee profiles
  • Receive IT security alerts
  • Manage device shipments for remote teams

Limitations

Configuration, detailed reporting, and complex admin tasks still need the web interface. I’ve also seen some users mention occasional slow loading or the app freezing when photographing receipts.

In my testing, I haven’t seen any significant issues.

What user feedback shows

I’ve seen users describe the app as “intuitive” and praise the automation, especially when it triggers reminders using real-time data. Complaints focus on occasional performance issues and on security checks that slow work down.

Available on:

Mobile app rating
8.8 /10

The app handles employee and manager tasks well, with solid automation and a clean layout. Minor performance issues and admin gaps keep it from scoring higher.

What analytics and reporting features does Rippling include?

Rippling tracks data across HR, payroll, IT, and finance with built-in reports and visual tools.

The platform includes hundreds of ready-made reports.

Pre-built reports

Some of the most useful (and interesting) reports include:

  • Turnover and headcount by department
  • Compensation and time off balances
  • Device age and replacement needs
  • Recruiting pipeline and offer acceptance

Reports use charts, graphs, and pivot tables. Clients can filter by department, location, or date range. Also, everything can be exported to spreadsheets, which I found very useful in my tests.

Example: An HR lead opens Rippling’s turnover report and sees customer support has more people leaving than other departments. They filter by location and date, notice most exits happen within the first 90 days, then export the chart to share with leadership for a pay and onboarding review.

Custom reports

The point-and-click builder lets anyone create reports using any field in the system.

You can connect data across functions, like tracking how compensation changes affected retention rates or how adding new software licenses impacted IT spend. The system also generates and files EEO-1* and ACA* reports automatically.

Example: An HR manager creates a report using the point-and-click builder to link recent pay increases to employee turnover, then lets Rippling automatically generate and file the company’s EEO-1 report.

Limitations

The one limitation I noticed is that deep trend analysis usually requires exporting data to external tools.

*EEO-1 (Employer Information Report) is a U.S. workforce demographic report required for some employers. ACA is short for the Affordable Care Act, which sets the rules around employer health insurance and related reporting.

Analytics & reporting rating
8.9 /10

I’ve only ever given a few scores of 8.9 or higher in this category, and one of those goes to Rippling. That speaks volumes, especially about the pre-built reports.

What do users say on review platforms?

Users rate Rippling between 4.4 and 4.8 stars across major review sites.

With thousands of reviews on each platform, the scores reflect consistent satisfaction, and the volume shows that people actually want to share their experiences.

Below are some patterns I’ve noticed.

Common praise:

  • The interface is clean and makes complex workflows easier to manage.
  • Employee onboarding is fast and can often be completed in under an hour.
  • Support is responsive during the initial setup phase.
  • Automation reduces manual work, especially during onboarding and payroll processing.
  • Spend management simplifies expense tracking and budget control.
  • Time tracking tools capture hours accurately and sync with payroll.

Common complaints:

  • Pricing could be more transparent and clear.
  • Performance slows down during busy periods.
  • Implementation takes longer than initial estimates.
  • Learning curve is steep for advanced features.

I’ve also looked into what people on Reddit are saying. The common theme is that they find the platform powerful, but also say it can feel complex.

I’d say it works best when someone is dedicated to managing it; that one person in the team who feels important because everyone goes to them for all things Rippling.

That isn’t a bad thing. When you have everything in one platform, there’s a limit to how simple it can be.

Similar ratings across review sites suggest the core features work as expected. Most complaints are about pricing and how long it takes to learn the system, not about things breaking, and that’s a major plus.

How secure is Rippling?

Rippling keeps employee and payment data safe using encryption, access limits, and regular security checks.

The platform holds the following security certifications:

  • SOC 2 Type II: Independent audits verify that security controls operate effectively over time.
  • ISO 27001: Focuses on how information security is managed across the organization.

Data protection

Rippling uses a mix of technical safeguards and internal controls to keep sensitive data secure.

Key data protection measures include:

  • Data encryption: Information is encrypted when stored and when it moves between systems (AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit).
  • Secure cloud infrastructure: Cloud servers include regular backups and recovery to prevent data loss.
  • Employee security controls: Staff go through background checks and security training, and access is removed immediately when someone leaves.

What it means for clients: Sensitive data stays safe, even when people leave or something goes wrong.

Access control

Access controls limit who can see which data.

Two-factor authentication requires a second login step, and single sign-on works with tools like Okta and Google.

Finally, audit trails cover every sensitive action.

What it means for clients: Only the right people see employee data, and every change gets logged.

Monitoring and device security

Outside security firms test the system regularly.

The platform watches for unusual activity and records all admin and payroll changes. Device tools require encryption and strong passwords on employee laptops and phones.

If needed, admins can wipe devices remotely.

What it means for clients: Problems get caught early through active monitoring, and company data stays secure even on personal devices.

Security rating
9.2 /10

Rippling uses strong encryption, role-based access controls, and active monitoring to keep employee and payroll data safe. This deserves a 9.2 out of 10.

What compliance standards does Rippling meet?

Rippling meets a wide range of security and privacy requirements through third-party audits, recognized certifications, and built-in compliance tools.

Certifications and standards include:

  • ISO 27018: Checks how personal data is protected in cloud-based systems.
  • ISO 42001: Sets guidance around managing and governing AI-related risks.
  • GDPR: Governs how personal data should be handled in the European Union.
  • CCPA: Defines privacy rights and data handling rules under California law.

The platform includes controls that support HIPAA compliance, particularly for benefits data. This means Rippling is set up to securely handle sensitive health benefits information so it doesn’t get exposed or misused.

What it means for clients: The platform keeps employee and benefits data safe and reduces the risk of privacy or compliance mistakes. Independent audits confirm that all the proverbial safety boxes are ticked.

Ongoing compliance monitoring

The system tracks regulatory changes and updates payroll rules automatically.

It supports state leave laws and international data requirements, tracks administrative and payroll actions, and handles ACA reporting and COBRA* in the background.

Example: If a state changes its paid leave rules, Rippling updates payroll automatically, so companies don’t have to track or apply the change manually.

*Note: COBRA stands for the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act and lets employees keep their health insurance for a limited time after leaving a job or having certain life changes.

Compliance rating
9.1 /10

Rippling does a solid job in key areas, from HR to data and IT compliance, with fewer gaps than most platforms. That’s a clean 9.1 out of 10.

Who should use Rippling?

Whether Rippling fits your business depends primarily on company size and technical needs.

Rippling works best for:

  • Companies using many software tools: Rippling can automatically give people access to company apps when they join and remove access when they leave. The change is most obvious if you’re managing many tools by hand today.
  • Growing teams with 50–1,000 employees: If basic HR tools feel limiting but enterprise systems feel like too much, Rippling sits in the middle with more advanced features and less overhead.
  • Businesses with mixed workforces: Rippling works well if you manage full-time employees, international hires, and contractors, and want everything in one place.
  • Companies with a high volume of admin work: When HR, IT, or finance staff spend hours on repetitive tasks, Rippling’s automation can save time even if the software costs more than simpler options.

Consider alternatives if you need:

  • Lower monthly costs: Some providers handle core EOR work at lower rates (e.g., RemoFirst: $199 per employee per month). These budget options offer less IT integration and fewer automation features, so that’s a trade-off.
